Ljubljana, 21 February 2025 \u2013 The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the projects Development of Slovenj Gradec Sports Park, Urban Culture Centre and Langer Villa. The projects that follow urban strategies of respective urban municipalities will receive EUR 9.5 million from the European Regional Development Fund.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The three projects aim to foster sustainable development of urban areas and improve the quality of life of urban communities. They will ensure more efficient use of urban spaces and support the revitalisation and regeneration of derelict and underused areas, while fostering social and cultural cohesion. As part of the projects, comprehensive renovations and redevelopments will help deliver modern, accessible and sustainable urban spaces that will cater to the needs of all generations, build community spirit and enable the development of cultural, recreational and tourism activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renovation of a historic building in the centre of Celje<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project will include the reconstruction, extension, repurposing and legalisation of the former school of economics also known as the Kajuh or Slom\u0161ek Home. Once renovated, the building will become the centre of urban creativity, a modern space housing cultural and creative industries in the Celje city centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project will preserve the social function of the building, while adding new cultural and social content. With a revamped, modern appearance, the building will continue to serve as a multi-use hub bringing together creators, cultural practitioners and people from all walks of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By revitalising this 3,200 square meter old building, the project will help improve the use of urban space and play a crucial role in rejuvenating the city centre. Offering a wide range of events and activities, the building will become a hub of creativity and social life in Celje.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Celje-based project, led by the Urban Municipality of Celje, is worth a total of EUR 5,985,776.98 and will receive EUR 5,087,910.43 from the European Regional Development Fund.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renovation of the Langer Villa \u2013 revitalising the cultural heritage of Maribor<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project will include a comprehensive renovation and reconstruction of the Langer Villa, an important cultural monument. This adaptive reuse project will breathe new life into the villa, allowing it to shine in its former glory, while helping revitalise the neighbourhoods of Ljudski vrt and Koro\u0161ka vrata in Maribor. The revamped venue will cater to the needs of all generations, providing a vibrant, functional area featuring historic, recreational and green elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The carefully planned and executed renovation will preserve the cultural and historic value of the building that will host selected cultural events and provide memorable tourism experience. The project will promote more efficient urban space use and enable the revitalisation of previously underused building. Altogether 7,228.5 square meters of surface will be renovated, which will help rejuvenate the entire neighbourhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Maribor-based project, led by the Urban Municipality of Maribor, is worth a total of EUR 4,749,371.25 and will receive EUR 3,775,927.21 from the European Regional Development Fund. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Development of the Slovenj Gradec Sports Park \u2013 providing space for recreation and social interaction<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project will include the development of a Slovenj Gradec-based sports park. Its design will ensure more efficient use of the existing site, while unlocking its inherent potential. The redevelopment will aim at revitalising already built-up areas and creating a modern, green and sustainable urban environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Underused areas will be revitalised and transformed into a functional public space with new planting, sports and recreational areas, and spaces for social interaction and relaxing. Particular emphasis will be placed on social inclusion and accessibility for all residents, including vulnerable groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project will help build community spirit and social cohesion, encourage active and healthy lifestyle and foster sustainable mobility. Nearly 7,000 square meter large site that was previously underutilised will, by undergoing revitalisation and redevelopment, make a great addition to the city, providing residents with opportunity to spend free time in active and quality ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Slovenj Gradec-based project, led by the Urban Municipality of Slovenj Gradec, is worth a total of EUR 1,209,135.13 and will receive EUR 602,764.86 from the European Regional Development Fund.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
