Ljubljana, 18 December 2025 \u2013 The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project Specializations in nursing and midwifery. The \u20ac8 million project that will be supported by the European Social Fund Plus and the Republic of Slovenia marks an important step to ensuring long-term stability and quality of Slovenia’s public healthcare system. <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

The main purpose of the project is to design and establish a system of specializations for graduate nurses and midwifes. The roll out of new post-graduate specialist training programmes will help expand the range of competencies of health professionals, i.e. nurses and midwives, allowing them to acquire advanced expertise and specialized techniques in a specific chosen area, which is essential for the safe and effective patient care, especially in the field of emergency care and integrated primary care. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investments in advancing skills and deepening knowledge will help improve the quality of services provided to the patients. Systematic efforts to support further professional development of health professionals will enable: <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

  • Greater safety and quality of care through the acquisition of specialist knowledge and advanced skills tailored to the demands of the rapidly evolving healthcare system.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Better access to primary care services with reinforced multidisciplinary teams able to address patient needs more quickly and comprehensively.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Resilience of the healthcare system, as the roll out of specializations will ensure availability of highly skilled workforce to sustain the system and respond to the demands and challenges of long-term care and healthcare.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

    The project will be implemented under Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027 and will comply with the goals of the Strategy for the Development of Health Services in Primary Healthcare to 2031. It will be carried out by the Ministry of Health in partnership with the Nurses and Midwives Association of Slovenia and the Association of Professional Associations of Nurses, Midwives and Medical Technicians of Slovenia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The \u20ac8 million project will receive \u20ac5,033,480 from the European Social Fund Plus. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n
