EU funding for the development of key competences for persons on probation

Ljubljana, 11 October 2024 – The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project Development of key competences and design of specialised programmes for persons on probation.

Development of key competences for persons on probation

This project will be partly financed by the European Union. As part of it, the Probation Administration will design and deliver four targeted rehabilitation and treatment programmes. These will include mentoring for persons doing community service, programme for domestic violence offenders, programme for sex offenders, and programme for the development of social skills. The project aims to design and deliver various activities and programmes. They will help offenders address substance abuse issues, anger management issues and adopt non-violent communication. The offenders will gain social skills and key competences that will facilitate their social reintegration.

Programmes targeting domestic violence offenders and programmes for sex offenders will also be delivered. Other forms of specialised treatment will be available to help individuals with problems that led them to commit crime in the first place. Newly gained competences will make it easier for them to get paid work and reintegrate the labour market. Thus, they will be able to make a step change in thinking and avoid slipping back into criminal behaviour. The ultimate goal is to enable them to lead a better and safer life.

The project will be carried out under priority Long-term care and health, and social inclusion of Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027. It will pursue the specific objective Promoting social integration of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion, including the most deprived persons and children.

The project is worth a total of EUR 733,000. It will receive EUR 425,140 from the European Social Fund Plus.
