Ljubljana, 6 August 2025 – The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project Construction of the Prapretno 2 and 3 solar power plants with battery storage.

As part of the EU-funded project, the Holding Slovenske elektrarne d. o. o. (HSE d. o. o.) will build the Prapretno 2 and 3 solar power plants together with a battery storage facility for electrical energy in the area of the closed and recultivated ash and slag landfill located in Prapretno near Trbovlje. The investment will contribute to the comprehensive energy restructuring of the Zasavje coal region and to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The project Construction of the Prapretno 2 and 3 solar power plants with battery storage is part of Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027. The project will be implemented under priority Restructuring of coal regions and will pursue specific objective Just Transition Fund.

The project, valued at €13,623,180, will receive approximately €4 million, specifically €4,076,529.30, from the Just Transition Fund.
