Ljubljana, 4 September 2025 – The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the call for proposals Intermediate care units in social welfare institutions.

The call for proposals will ensure equal opportunities for equal and timely access to quality, safe, and affordable services in institutional settings for persons whose hospital treatment is concluded and do not require the degree of care which hospitals or skilled nursing facilities provide but require care and services above the level of room and board. With this call, Slovenia reaffirms its commitment to ensuring an accessible, safe, and modern public health system.
The call for proposals will be implemented under priority Long-term care and health, and social inclusion of Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027. It will pursue specific objective Enhancing the equal and timely access to quality, sustainable and affordable services, including services that promote the access to housing and person-centred care including healthcare; modernising social protection systems, including promoting access to social protection, with a particular focus on children and disadvantaged groups; improving accessibility including for persons with disabilities, effectiveness and resilience of healthcare systems and long-term care services.
The call will make a total of €5,674,140 available; it will receive over €3.5 million, more specifically €3,569,962.25, from the European Social Fund Plus.
The Ministry of Health will publish the call for proposals in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia on Friday, 12 September 2025.
