Ljubljana, 13 November 2025 – The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has issued a funding decision for the project INNOVUM – Renovation of the Centre of excellence in photonics, micro and nanotechnologies of University of Maribor. The project aims to boost investment in research and innovation and improve knowledge transfer to industry.

The University of Maribor will receive financial support for the project whose flagship goal will be to ensure state-of-the-art research facilities and research equipment. This will help build research and development capacities in key areas such as:
Upgraded research infrastructures will facilitate and improve science-industry collaboration, enabling open access to research infrastructures. The project will also contribute to providing highly qualified workforce boasting specific know-how for existing businesses and promising startups.
The project will be implemented under priority Innovative knowledge-based society as part of Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027. It will pursue specific objective Developing and enhancing research and innovation capacities and the uptake of advanced technologies.
Total eligible costs of the project that will be implemented in cohesion region Vzhodna Slovenija are estimated at €1,789,614.70. The project will be co-funded by the European Union and the Republic of Slovenia as follows:
