The closing ceremony of the At the School of Open Cohesion project was held today at the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre to celebrate the achievements of secondary school students and their mentors. The event showcased the monitoring projects developed as part of this year’s project and raised awareness of the importance of cohesion policy among the young.
Through their creativity, knowledge and commitment, the students demonstrated that cohesion policy is not only about funding and projects, but also about people, communities, and young people who think critically, work together and search for solutions to local challenges. The jury and the audience were impressed by the quality of the students’ work and their achievements and dedication throughout the project.
The event featured opening remarks by the project coordinator, Beti Blagus, the representative of the Commission Representation in Slovenia, Maja Schussler, and Irena Brcko Kogoj from the Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development, who praised the students’ curiosity, dedication and commitment to project monitoring.
While all participating teams demonstrated outstanding work, awards were presented to the top three teams, along with a special recognition Most Digital School. The awards were presented by Klavdija Operčkal, National EU Funds Communication Coordinator and Željka Kitić, Interreg Programme Slovenia-Croatia project coordinator.
The awards were presented to the following secondary schools:
1st place: team Vistologists from Gimnazija Velenje who explored EU-funded project Vista Park by the Velenje Lake,
2nd place: team Kumquat from the Secondary School of Commerce Ljubljana who explored EU-funded project Applause, and
3rd place: team Generation Bridge from Gimnazija Ormož who explored EU-funded project Relaxation and mentoring to improve the wellbeing of older employees.
The Most Digital School title was awarded to the Secondary School for Mechanical and Chemical Engineering in recognition of its team’s Instagram posts created throughout the school year.
The top three teams won study visits to selected EU-funded projects.
We congratulate all participating students and teams for their hard work, commitment, and outstanding achievements. A special thank goes to the mentors who integrated cohesion policy themes into the curriculum, encouraging students to research, explore, innovate, and work together.
