The Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for a project promoting the greening of public spaces in Majšperk. The project will receive over €580,000 from the European Regional Development Fund.
The project includes the comprehensive redevelopment of the municipal centre and the enhancement of green spaces with the aim of improving the quality of the living environment, strengthening green infrastructure and providing sustainable, accessible and functional public spaces for both residents and visitors.
Through greening measures, the project aims to improve air quality, reduce noise levels and enhance biodiversity, while creating a public space that meets the needs of different age groups and fosters social interaction and inter-generational connections. The project covers nine interconnected sites, including existing green spaces in Majšperk, areas being developed alongside a new residential neighbourhood, and the Centre of Integrated and Long-Term Care. The project also encompasses the natural asset Topolinjek and its footpath, contributing to the preservation and enhancement of the area’s natural heritage. As part of the project, a roofed outdoor classroom will be established, while a pocket park and a community garden will be created to further enhance the area’s recreational and educational value. The project will redevelop and green approximately two hectares of public space.
The €745,897.48 project will be implemented under Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027. It will receive €584,077.74 from the European Regional Development Fund. The Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning will be responsible for the implementation of the project, while the beneficiary of the funding will be the Municipality of Majšperk.
