EU funding for promoting sustainable mobility in Koper

The Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for an ITI project supporting connectivity in the Urban Municipality of Koper. The project will receive around €3.3 million from the European Regional Development Fund.

The project aims to create a new and more efficient connection between the Markov hill, the coastal area and the city centre. The connection will facilitate daily travel between residential neighbourhoods and the city centre, making a significant contribution to sustainable mobility in the city. The elevator will complete the link between the coastal cycling route and the cycling route in Markovec, while ensuring easier access for pedestrians and independent use by persons with disabilities.

The project will improve connectivity between the urban centre and its hinterland, advance sustainable mobility, reduce traffic congestion and noise, mitigate negative environmental impacts, enhance the quality of the urban living environment and increase road safety. The project will deliver a new overpass, 72 bicycle parking spaces, a KISS&Go area in front of a primary school, a shared-traffic zone and a bike counter.

The €11,668,530.04 project will be implemented under Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027. It will receive €3,387,736.75 from the European Regional Development Fund. The beneficiary of the funding will be the Urban Municipality of Koper.
