€2.5 million in EU funding for emergency medical services

Ljubljana, 29 May 2025 – The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project Integration of the first responder system in the emergency medical services (EMS) system.

As part of this EU-funded project, the Ministry of Health will set up an efficient and coordinated first responder network, integrating it into the EMS system. This will ensure a faster and better response by emergency services in any life-threatening situation. The investment will help reduce inequalities in access to emergency services in life-threatening situations. It will also help enhance resilience of healthcare services to long-term challenges across the country.

The project Integration of the first responder model in the emergency medical services system will be carried out in the scope of Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027, under priority Long-term care and health, and social inclusion. It will pursue specific objective Enhancing equal and timely access to quality, sustainable and affordable services, including services that promote the access to housing and person-centred care including healthcare; modernising social protection systems, including promoting access to social protection, with a particular focus on children and disadvantaged groups; improving accessibility including for persons with disabilities, effectiveness and resilience of healthcare systems and long-term care services.

The €4,028,714 project will receive nearly €2.5 million from the European Social Fund Plus.
