EU funding for the project Digital publishing development

Ljubljana, 30 July 2025 – The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project Digital publishing development, which aims to promote the digital transformation of the Slovenian publishing sector. The European Regional Development Fund will contribute €1.46 million to the project.

The main objective of the project is to increase the volume of book production in digital form, encompassing both electronic and audio formats, and to enhance the accessibility and user experience of existing and new digital books. The project addresses the challenges of modern society, characterised by changing reading habits, while promoting the development of innovative, accessible, and inclusive forms of publishing.

Key project activities:

  • publishing new electronic and audio books,
  • establishing technological tools that will make it easier for publishers to create and distribute digital content,
  • promoting digital reading and educational activities for publishers, authors, librarians, and readers,
  • developing user-friendly, flexible digital book formats, also intended for vulnerable target groups such as people with special needs, older and younger readers who are already accustomed to the digital environment.

The project is a significant step towards enhancing competitiveness in Slovenian publishing, as it promotes the adoption of modern digital solutions and innovative business models. It will also contribute to closer cooperation between various actors – publishers, libraries, research institutions, and technology companies – and thus to the development of a sustainable, accessible, and modern system of book production and distribution.

The beneficiary of the financial contribution for the project is the Slovenian Book Agency.

The European Regional Development Fund will contribute €1,464,242 to the project, which has a total value of €2,600,000.
