Europe Day 2025

Ljubljana, 9 May 2025 – Today, we are marking Europe Day, an annual celebration of peace and unity across Europe.

This date marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, a historic proposal made by Robert Schuman, French Foreign Minister, in 1950 that laid out the foundation of European cooperation.

To mark this occasion, the Commission Representation in Slovenia and the national coordinator for EU funds in Slovenia, the Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development, organized an event that took place on the eve of Europe Day in Ljubljana. In her opening remarks, Dr Nataša Pirc Musar, the President of the Republic of Slovenia and special guest of the event, underscored the importance of European cooperation and values that bind all Europeans together. Dr Marta Kos, EU Commissioner for Enlargement addressed attendees via video.

As part of the event, the Government Office for the Support and Integration of Migrants and the Police showcased some of the EU-funded projects that became success stories. The institutions presenting themselves at the stands engaged visitors in a wide range of educational and entertaining activities. Children enjoyed meeting police dog handlers and their four-legged co-workers as well as police officer Bear Leo. Older visitors could try themselves in detection of latent fingerprints on recycled paper using magnetic powder dusting. Visitors were able to learn more about the Infocentre for foreigners that is set to open in June 2025. They also got the opportunity to check their skills in Slovenian language at proficiency levels A2, B1, and B2.

The event brought together many visitors who enjoyed stopping at different stands. They were joined by Minister for Cohesion and Regional Development Dr Aleksander Jevšek, Head of Commission Representation in Slovenia Dr Jerneja Jug Jerše, Director of the Government Office for the Support and Integration of Migrants mag. Katarina Štrukelj, and ambassadors of EU member states to Slovenia.

The event was an excellent opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the European Union. It highlighted the simple yet powerful message that Europe is a place of cooperation, solidarity, and opportunities.

Some of the highlights of the event are captured below.
