Last Saturday, Portorož celebrated the 140th anniversary of tourism. The event offered a rich cultural and culinary programme, culminating in a performance by the legendary Faraoni band.
Last Saturday, the Trg prekomorskih brigad square came alive with the event Postcards from Portorož, which marked the 140th anniversary of tourism in Portorož. The opening address by mag. Patricija Gržinič, Director of the Tourist Association of Portorož, was briefly interrupted by a short shower. Prompting the audience to take shelter nearby. Once the rain stopped, the participants returned to watch a short film that presented the rich history of Portorož and the people whose dedication and work helped shape its tourist identity over the decades.
The fashion show, organised by Barbara Misson, offered a colourful journey through different historical periods. Tourist Association of Portorož, which organised the event, surprised visitors with a cake prepared by the pastry chefs of LifeClass hotels. The event, moderated by Lara Pirc, was enriched by members of the Rosa Klementina, Anbot, and Tourist Association Taperin Sečovlje. The highlight of the evening was a concert by the legendary band Faraoni. Due to the weather, the presentation of the 2025 Award of Excellence in Tourism was postponed to 10 October 2025, when a formal ceremony will be held at the Grand Hotel to mark the municipal holiday.
Local providers offered a selection of Istrian delicacies, and guests with a sweet tooth enjoyed the Piran cake Š’torta and the Bled cream slice. The free event was also supported by EU funds. The Portorož Tourist Association participated in the EU project My Project 2025 competition and was shortlisted among 17 finalists.
