School teams kick start their work under At the School of Open Cohesion – meet the EconoVision 8 team

Nova Gorica Secondary School of Economics and Trade has kick started its work under the At the School of Open Cohesion project. The project invites pupils to discover and reflect about cohesion policy and local projects that foster community development. First up, we present the EconoVision 8 team that brings together 13 students in third year of economic technician program, i.e. Mia, Iris, Emili, Nik, Nika, Anais, Filip, Elen, Lana, Kylie, Sara, Matevž and Ian.

What is their research about?

The team has chosen the local cohesion project Super8 as the focus of their research. The project aims to create a space for cultural, artistic and gastronomic cooperation between Nova Gorica and Gorizia. It brings people, creators and communities on both sides of the border together in an effort to strengthen cross-border cultural exchanges. The students stress that this project means a lot to them as it promotes mutual cooperation, understanding of local environment and learning how to work together, which they see as skills they will need both in school and later in life.

Team’s first steps

First, the students focused on exploring secondary sources; they looked into the concept of cohesion to understand its meaning, watched an educational video about cohesion and investigated EU-funded projects in local community. Super8 was the project that caught their attention the most and they decided to explore it further as a subject of their research. They conducted a site visit to the project and did some brainstorming to come up with ideas how the place could thrive in the future by bringing together culture, art, and gastronomy.

Cooperation with experts

The team met with the project manager Beti Blagus and a young correspondent working for the portal mlad.si Nikola Paunovski who carried out a workshop on report writing. They discussed the basics of journalistic writing, event reporting and producing quality stories. External expert Vid Sever also visited the team, giving a fun and interactive workshop that provided students with further insights on cohesion and underlined the importance of working together in local community. This helped the students build solid foundations for their future work and research.

What’s next?

There are a number of activities ahead of the EconoVision 8 team: interview with the project promoter, a survey for the residents of Gorizia and Nova Gorica, implementation of other activities set out in the At the School of Open Cohesion programme, analysis of survey responses and final report including survey findings.
