EU funding for accessible testing and treatment of blood-borne diseases

The Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project Development of a pilot model for the diagnosis and treatment of blood-borne diseases, with a focus on hepatitis C among high-risk populations that inject drugs – Mobile outpatient hepatitis C clinic. The European Social Fund Plus will support the project by contributing nearly €400.000.

As part of the project, a pilot model aimed at improving access to treatment for high-risk and marginalised groups will be developed. A mobile outpatient clinic will enable on-site screening and early detection of infections, immediate start of treatment and more efficient patient monitoring. The project will contribute to reducing the incidence of hepatitis C infections and other blood-borne infections, while significantly improving the public health response in terms of managing infectious diseases.

The project has been designed to improve health outcomes and promote social inclusion. It aims to ensure that all individuals, particularly vulnerable groups, have easier, faster, and equal access to quality health and social services. It also contributes to the modernisation of the public health system, making it more accessible, efficient, and responsive to the needs of individuals.

The €530,000 project will be implemented under Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027 and will receive €328,197.20 from the European Social Fund Plus. The beneficiary of the funds will be the University Medical Centre Ljubljana.
