Ljubljana, 8 May 2025 – The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project Sustainable mobility in Velenje.
The latest EU-funded project carried out by the Urban Municipality of Velenje aims to promote sustainable mobility. As part of the project, investments will be made in additional cycling infrastructure in the city. The existing pedestrian infrastructure on the Cankarjeva ulica street in the city centre will undergo maintenance work. A charging station for commercial electric vehicles will be set up as well. Among other things, additional public infrastructure will be developed to upgrade the existing bike sharing system. Thus, two new docking stations featuring 10 and 6 bikes respectively and new electric and regular bikes will be added to the bike sharing network.
These measures will encourage more people to use bikes as an alternative, more sustainable mode of transportation.
The project will be carried out in the scope of Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027, under priority Sustainable urban mobility. It will pursue specific objective Promoting sustainable multimodal urban mobility, as part of transition to a net zero carbon economy.
The €4,524,736.64 project will receive €2,716,531.53 from the European Regional Development Fund
