EU funding for the Lastovka outdoor air quality monitoring system

Ljubljana, 6 June 2024 – The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project Lastovka outdoor air quality monitoring system providing air quality information and issuing air quality alerts. The Cohesion Fund will support the project with EUR 2.5 million.

The aim of the project is to provide comprehensive air quality monitoring with real-time information on ambient concentrations of different pollutants. The project will also include the preparation of bases for decision makers that will guide the planning and monitoring of policies and measures to improve air quality. All activities will be carried out in line with the relevant national and EU legislation. As part of the project, data on the quality of precipitation will be provided and air quality alerts issued to notify the citizens about unsafe air pollution levels.

The project makes a huge step forward in improving the quality of life of Slovenians and protecting the environment. Comprehensive and accurate monitoring of outdoor air quality and effective alerting system will allow for targeted and rapid response to air pollution and regular provision of information about the state of the environment.

Worth a total of EUR 3,662,377.97, the project will receive EUR 2,550,000 from the Cohesion Fund. It will be implemented by the Slovenian Environment Agency.
