EU funding for the renovation of the nursing hospital premises in Maribor

Ljubljana, 27 October 2025 – The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project Renovation of the premises of the Nursing Hospital of the University Medical Centre Maribor. The European Regional Development Fund contribution stands at € 10 million. The beneficiary of the financial contribution for the project is the Ministry of Health.

As part of the project, the premises in the hospital complex in Slivniško Pohorje will be renovated, where a branch of the Nursing Hospital of the University Medical Centre Maribor will be established. Currently, these premises house the Department of Pulmonary Diseases, which will move to renovated premises at the main location of the University Medical Centre Maribor at Ljubljanska ulica 5, thereby freeing up space for new activities.

By renovating the nursing hospital premises, the University Medical Centre Maribor will create suitable conditions for the care and treatment of patients requiring prolonged hospitalisation. At the same time, the capacity for admitting acute patients at the main location will be increased.

The project will make a significant difference by improving healthcare staff’s working conditions, providing better patient care, and offering more comprehensive long-term care to those who need it.

The project is implemented in the framework of Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027 under the priority Long-term care and health, and social inclusion and pursues specific objective Ensuring equal access to healthcare and fostering resilience of health systems.

The European Regional Development Fund will contribute €10,083,324.30 to the project, which has a total value of €15,385,596.85.
