Ljubljana, 24 September 2025 – The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project Restoration of the granary at the Ptuj Castle, a cultural monument of national importance.
As part of the project, the Ministry of Culture will undertake an extensive renovation of the largest granary in Slovenia, the granary at the Ptuj Castle, to restore its architectural integrity. The goal of the restoration of this cultural monument is to protect, conserve, revive, and include heritage in local life, prevent further dilapidation of the structure and create conditions for its long-term public use. The restored granary will be transformed into a mixed-use structure that will host cultural events, offer heritage interpretation programmes, and serve as a tourist attraction and a hub for locals and visitors alike. The project is expected to have multiplicative effects on local economy and education.
The project Restoration of the granary at the Ptuj Castle, a cultural monument of national importance will be implemented as part of Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027 under priority Sustainable tourism and culture. It will pursue specific objective Enhancing the role of culture and sustainable tourism in economic development, social inclusion and social innovation.
The €9,614,595.18 project will receive over €8 million, more specifically €8,075,000 from the European Regional Development Fund.
