The Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development has approved three projects that aim to improve cyclist and pedestrian safety. The projects will receive €4 million from the European Union. CTN MO NM Šmarješka in CTN MO NM Ragovska.
The project National cycling connection G14 Celje-Vojnik will be implemented under the Agreement on the Development of the Region. As part of the project, a 4.4 km section of cycling infrastructure will be built in the Municipality of Vojnik, together with a 1.4 km section linking Šmarjeta and Škofja vas in the Urban Municipality of Celje. The project will enhance road safety, especially for cyclists commuting to work or school and travelling to public institutions and public transport hubs. The €2,071,714 project will receive €1,626,243.79 from the Cohesion Fund. The beneficiary of the funding is the Slovenian Infrastructure Agency.
A Novo mesto-based ITI project will include the reconstruction of a 1,190 m section of the Šmarješka cesta road. In addition, 1,660 m of cycling and pedestrian infrastructure will be developed in the settlement of Ločna. The €6,459,715.62 project will receive €1,731,131.45 from the European Regional Development Fund. The beneficiary of the funding is the Urban Municipality of Novo mesto.
The Urban Municipality of Novo mesto will receive EU funding for another ITI project which will involve the redevelopment of a 480 m section of the Jakčeva and Ragovska ulica streets and development of cycling and pedestrian infrastructure. The €1,508,885.35 project will receive €707,130.56 from the European Regional Development Fund. The project aims to improve road safety for cyclists and pedestrians, promote sustainable mobility and encourage cycling as a mode of everyday transport.
The three projects will be implemented under Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027.
