The revitalisation of the existing Military Square with the partial reconstruction of the medieval wall represents a complete renovation of the oldest city square, which was built on this site in the 11th century. The basic spatial emphasis of the square is represented by the Minorite Church, the northern façade of which forms part of the southern edge of the market space. The main purpose of the investment was the revitalisation of the existing Military Square and the renovation of the facility called ‘Pri treh babah’.

The basic goals of the investment were to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Maribor, to preserve the old building structures and restore them to their historical importance in a renovated form, to increase the spatial capacity for cultural activities and to enrich the western part of the old city centre with programmes, to integrate the new public cultural infrastructure into the tourist and the educational offer of the city and the region and to provide a new programme and tourist offer of the city of Maribor in the frame of the renovation of old city centres.
