World Refugee Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of protecting people who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, violence, or persecution. The European Union and its member states have developed a common framework for migration and asylum management, based on shared responsibility, solidarity, and respect for fundamental rights. The launch of the Migration and Asylum Pact marks an important step in this regard, introducing common rules for a more efficient migration management and support to member states in implementing asylum procedures.
The Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) helps implement these objectives in Slovenia. In the 2021-2027 period, its funding is allocated to projects that support the reception and integration of persons granted international protection, Slovenian language courses, projects facilitating familiarisation with Slovenia and its people, counselling services, and other activities that facilitate successful integration in local environment. These measures strengthen social inclusion and independence of individuals, enhancing social cohesion.
World Refugee Day highlights the importance of cooperation between European institutions, national authorities, and project promoters in ensuring a safer and more inclusive environment for all.
